Abstract
This article focuses on the association between knowledge and practices in preventing nutritional anaemia and the anaemia status of urban poor adolescents in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The cross-sectional study of 209 adolescents aged 10 to 17 years found a high anaemia prevalence of 58.4%, particularly among females and those from larger households. Despite low levels of knowledge (29.2%) and good practices (10.0%) in preventing nutritional anaemia, adolescents with higher knowledge were more likely to be anaemic after adjusting for sex, household size, and income, while practices showed no significant association with anaemia status. The findings highlight the need for targeted nutrition education and interventions to address anaemia among urban poor adolescents in this population.
