Abstract

The article focuses on Uganda's Nyege Nyege Festival, described as Africa's largest music festival, which showcases over 300 artists from East Africa and beyond in a setting that emphasizes cross-cultural collaboration and creative experimentation. The festival features diverse performances ranging from traditional Ugandan acts like the Nakibembe Xylophone Troupe to avant-garde international artists, fostering a community atmosphere where the boundary between performers and audience often blurs. In 2024, Nyege Nyege introduced daytime events around Jinja, including the Sudanese Pavilion, which highlights the culture of Sudanese refugees in Uganda and promotes healing and peace through music. The festival's role as a platform for artistic innovation and social connection is expected to continue as it approaches its 10th anniversary in 2025.
