Abstract

The article focuses on the mental health challenges faced by journalists reporting on traumatic events and the inadequacies of trauma literacy education in journalism curricula in North Macedonia. Empirical research involving journalism students at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje revealed that while students recognize the psychological risks associated with trauma reporting, they perceive a significant lack of adequate training, teaching materials, and practical education on trauma literacy. Trauma literacy is defined as awareness of the impact of traumatic assignments, ethical reporting, and self-care strategies to build resilience. The findings highlight a need for integrating trauma literacy and mental health resilience training into journalism education to better prepare future journalists for the emotional demands of their profession.
