Abstract
This article focuses on the development and validation of a culturally adapted instrument to assess mental health literacy (MHL) in the urban context of Bolivia. Researchers from Universidad San Francisco Xavier in Sucre conducted a mixed-methods study to translate, culturally adapt, and evaluate the content validity of three scales: the Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLS), the Perceived Devaluation and Discrimination Scale (PDDS), and the Mental Health Problem Recognition module (MHPR). Expert assessments and pilot testing indicated strong content validity for the final 53-item instrument, which aims to address knowledge gaps and stigma related to mental health in Bolivia and potentially other Spanish-speaking Latin American populations. The study provides a foundation for further psychometric evaluation and broader application in similar cultural contexts. [Extracted from the article]
