Abstract
The article focuses on the cultural adaptation of Helping Her Heal (HHH), a nurse-delivered educational counseling intervention originally developed in the United States to support spouse caregivers of women with breast cancer, for use in Ghana. Using the Ecological Validity Model (EVM), the study engaged Ghanaian spouse caregivers and breast clinic nurses to review and modify the intervention manuals, resulting in adaptations primarily in language, content, and metaphors to ensure cultural relevance and acceptability. The adapted intervention, HHH-Ghana, maintains the original structure and aims to improve spouse caregivers' mental health, communication skills, and caregiving abilities within the Ghanaian context. This study represents the first step toward implementing an evidence-based, culturally sensitive support program for spouse caregivers of women with breast cancer in Ghana, addressing a previously unmet need in this population.
