Abstract
The article focuses on a study assessing the prevalence of probable post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among university students at SIMAD University in Mogadishu, Somalia. Conducted by researchers from the University of Nairobi, the study involved 343 students and found that 34.4% met the criteria for probable PTSD, with female students showing significantly higher odds. Key factors associated with PTSD included experiencing the death of a friend from gun violence and involvement in transportation accidents. The findings emphasize the need for trauma-informed and gender-sensitive mental health interventions in Somali university settings due to the psychological impact of ongoing insecurity.
