Abstract
The article focuses on the construction, features, and future development of thematic old map platforms, particularly those related to Chinese historical maps. It systematically reviews ten representative domestic and international platforms, highlighting their approaches to visualization, map interaction, and data sharing, while noting challenges such as diverse map formats, incomplete georeferencing, and limited data interoperability. The study emphasizes the potential of artificial intelligence technologies—including deep learning and natural language processing—to enhance map content digitization, spatial information mining, and user-friendly retrieval across disciplines. It advocates for cross-temporal, multi-scale databases and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve accessibility, research value, and cultural understanding of old maps within fields like historical geography, cartography, and digital humanities.
