Abstract
The article focuses on a recent attack in Niger's capital, Niamey, where unidentified assailants came close to a uranium stockpile previously managed by the French company Orano SA. The assault, which involved heavy gunfire and explosions near Diori Hamani International Airport, resulted in the deaths of at least 20 attackers and injuries to four members of Niger's security forces. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred in a context of heightened tensions following Niger's military leadership's nationalization of the Somair mine and a shift in alliances towards Russia. The incident raises concerns about the security of radioactive materials in a region affected by jihadist violence. [Extracted from the article]
