Feminist and dissident counter-monumental interventions: Urban memory struggles between Santiago de Chile and Mexico City.

This article examines two feminist and dissident counter-monumental interventions in Latin America: Amor y Furia in Santiago de Chile and La Glorieta de las Mujeres que Luchan in Mexico City. Both interventions repurpose monuments associated with colonial and patriarchal national histories to expose ongoing gender-based violence and to reappropriate public urban spaces for marginalized communities. Drawing on the concept of ch'ixi memory activism—rooted in the Aymara epistemology of coexistence and contradiction—the study highlights how these artistic and activist practices challenge hegemonic cultural memory by presenting diverse, temporally layered narratives of resistance. The interventions function as affective, aesthetic, and spatial acts that confront official histories while fostering collective recognition and mobilization despite opposition from authorities and counter-activists.
