Abstract

The document "Debating Peace and War: Anonymous ballads in Bern, Burgerbibliothek, Cod. 473" focuses on anonymous ballads found in a manuscript containing works by Chartier, held in Switzerland. This composite manuscript, belonging to Amédée VIII of Savoy, is polyglot and contains texts in Italian, French, and Latin on biblical, liturgical, philosophical, astrological, historical, lyrical, and literary subjects. The ballads and rondeaux on peace and war, although not attributed, could be by Chartier. These compositions, rich in wordplay and rhymes, could have been created during social events.
