Abstract
The article focuses on recent developments and strategic initiatives in submarine fiber optic cable infrastructure worldwide. Liberty Latin America is investing $250 million to upgrade the MAYA-1.2 submarine cable system, enhancing connectivity in the Caribbean and preparing for the new MANTA cable. Telecom Egypt and Jordan's NaiTel completed the Coral Bridge subsea cable, the first direct link between the two countries in over 25 years, improving regional digital infrastructure and connectivity across Africa, Asia, and Europe. The East Micronesia Cable, funded by Australia, Japan, and the United States, has landed in Kiribati and Nauru, providing these Pacific nations with their first submarine cable to boost internet access and economic opportunities. Additionally, Romania joined the United States and European Union in a joint declaration to protect submarine cables from sabotage and cyberattacks, highlighting the critical role of these cables in global data transmission and infrastructure security.
