Abstract

The article reviews *Boom Kids: Growing Up in the Calgary Suburbs, 1950–1970*, which examines post-war suburban childhood through the experiences of children and youth in Banff Trail, a working- and middle-class Calgary suburb. Using oral histories from baby boomers, the book highlights the relative safety, conformity, and material comfort of suburban life amid Cold War anxieties, class diversity, gender roles, and recreational activities. While the study enriches understanding of everyday youth experiences, it notes missed opportunities to explore racial diversity, adolescent autonomy, peer culture, and the negotiation of sexuality in greater depth. The work contributes to the emerging field of children and youth history and invites further research into the complexities of suburban adolescence during this period.
