Abstract
TIME 100 CLimateLEADERS PRESIDENT REPUBLIC OF SURINAMEWithin days of taking office as Suriname's President in July, Jennifer Geerlings-Simons signaled a sharp pivot toward environmental protection—a timely shift for one of only three countries that absorb more CO2 than they release. By August, she announced a moratorium on new large-scale logging permits and launched a comprehensive national forest survey. She also moved to fast-track recognition of ancestral territories. Her message to other world leaders is blunt: "We are running out of excuses, but we are not running out of solutions."PHOTO (COLOR) [Extracted from the article]
