Abstract
This article focuses on Hercule Joannidès (1897–1950), a Greek expatriate in Paris who acted as a cultural mediator between France and Greece during the inter-war period by organizing thematic cultural cruises and publishing the illustrated magazine *Le Voyage en Grèce*. Combining his roles as a travel agent, publisher, author, and art connoisseur, Joannidès leveraged his dual Greek-French identity and extensive artistic networks to promote Franco-Greek cultural exchanges aimed at mutual intellectual enrichment and the modernization of Greek cultural identity. His cruises, often aligned with significant cultural events such as the Delphic Festivals and the Fourth International Congress of Modern Architecture (CIAM IV), brought together European intellectuals and artists to experience Greek art, architecture, and landscape firsthand. Through his promotional materials and magazine, Joannidès constructed and disseminated a Western-oriented, idealized image of Greece that connected its ancient heritage with contemporary French avant-garde culture, thereby using tourism as a platform for cultural transfer and dialogue.
