Abstract

This report focuses on a pilot workshop held from January to July 2024 in Veracruz, Mexico, which explored the integration of Indigenous knowledge and drama therapy to address the psychological impacts of climate change. The project engaged Indigenous communities in the Sierra de Zongolica region through applied theatre and ritual practices, facilitating collective emotional expression and resilience-building while honoring local traditions, including the Nahuatl language. Activities included community rituals, storytelling, and performative events at schools and markets, emphasizing the role of ancestral narratives and embodied relationships with nature in coping with environmental challenges. The initiative involved collaboration among Universidad Veracruzana academic units, drama therapists, and local participants, highlighting the potential of culturally grounded, participatory methods to foster community agency and mental health in the context of climate change.
