Abstract

The article focuses on the current role and relevance of reggae music in Jamaica, particularly during Reggae Month commemorating Bob Marley’s legacy. Industry veteran Ainsworth ‘Mitchie’ Williams and young reggae artists Matthew Malcolm and Zac Jone$ emphasize that reggae continues to convey messages of unity, freedom, and social consciousness, adapting to modern digital platforms despite challenges in investment. Shaggy, a globally recognized artist and organizer of the Island Music Conference, highlights a strong contemporary movement of conscious and protest reggae among Jamaica’s youth. The discussion reflects reggae’s ongoing cultural significance both locally and globally.
