Abstract

The article focuses on the re-election of Azali Assoumani as president of the Comoros amid allegations of electoral fraud and low voter turnout. Assoumani, who won 62.97% of the vote in a January 14th election, faced claims of ballot rigging from opposition candidates, leading to protests and calls for the election results to be annulled. Despite the opposition's accusations and a turnout of only 16.3% of the electorate, international observers deemed the election largely free and fair. Following the announcement of the results, tensions escalated, resulting in clashes between security forces and protesters, as well as a government-imposed curfew and internet disruptions.
