Abstract
The article focuses on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan, exacerbated by the actions of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their international backers, particularly the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Following a failed humanitarian truce in late 2023, the RSF intensified its violent campaign in El Fasher, leading to significant civilian casualties and widespread displacement. The conflict, rooted in a power struggle between military leaders Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan "Hemeti" Dagalo, has resulted in severe humanitarian consequences, with over 150,000 deaths and 12 million displaced. The article argues that the UAE's support for the RSF undermines peace efforts and calls for accountability from international actors, particularly the United States, to leverage its influence to end the conflict.
