Abstract

This article focuses on assessing equipment maintenance practices and manpower adequacy in private dental centres (DCs) across Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The study found that only 21 out of 33 surveyed DCs had scheduled maintenance plans, and 11 lacked maintenance records, indicating widespread inadequate maintenance and a shortage of trained personnel. Many centres also lacked essential emergency equipment, such as defibrillators, and most did not have in-house biomedical engineering departments, relying instead on external contractors or untrained staff for repairs. These deficiencies pose increased health risks to patients and users, prompting recommendations for stricter adherence to local standards and the employment of qualified maintenance personnel to ensure equipment safety and reliability.
