Abstract
This article evaluates the impact of international organizations' funding on the educational environment of urban Syrian refugees in Jordanian public schools. It examines rehabilitation projects led by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), focusing on improvements in school infrastructure, sanitation, ventilation, and social spaces. Findings indicate that while physical upgrades enhanced academic performance, safety, and students' sense of belonging, local communities and school stakeholders were insufficiently involved in decision-making, limiting the projects' cultural responsiveness and sustainability. The research highlights the need for participatory approaches and ongoing maintenance plans to better address the educational challenges faced by refugee-hosting communities in conflict-affected regions.
