Abstract

The article investigates the impact of financial technology (FinTech) adoption on the environmental performance of commercial banks in Oman from 2015 to 2023. Using text-mining techniques on annual reports from eight local banks, the study develops indices for FinTech adoption and environmental performance, finding that both have increased over the period. Univariate regression indicates a positive and statistically significant relationship between FinTech adoption and environmental performance, while multivariate regression shows a positive but not statistically significant effect, likely due to the small sample size and limited FinTech adoption in some banks. The study also highlights that larger banks and those with higher cash flow tend to have better environmental performance, and it underscores the need for enhanced disclosure and regulatory guidance on environmental initiatives within Omani banks.
