Abstract

Infraestudio, a Cuban architectural practice based in Havana, focuses on repair and preservation in a careful and prudent manner. The duo of Anadis González and Fernando Martirena, still students when they received their first commission, transformed a neoclassical residence into the Línea Art Center, preserving colonial architecture while adding subtle interventions like a concrete staircase and a new roof. Operating in a grey area where private architecture practice is officially illegal in Cuba, Infraestudio's work reflects a poetics of care and a tendency towards obscurity and subversion in their architecture of repair.
