Abstract
The article discusses the potential of low-cost sensors (LCS) to enhance air quality monitoring in Brazil, addressing the challenges posed by traditional monitoring systems. With the enactment of the National Air Quality Policy (PNQAr) in 2024, there is a recognized need to expand monitoring networks across Brazil's diverse regions, where current coverage is inadequate. The authors argue that LCS can provide affordable, portable, and user-friendly solutions to fill geographical gaps in monitoring, enabling real-time data collection and community engagement in air quality management. Despite challenges related to sensor accuracy and maintenance, integrating LCS with existing monitoring frameworks could significantly improve Brazil's air quality data and inform public health policies.
