Abstract

This article focuses on a genetic study investigating the association between candidate gene polymorphisms and suicide attempts in an ethnically homogeneous Kazakh population from Astana, Kazakhstan. The research identified a significant correlation between specific genotypes of serotonergic receptor genes and suicidal behavior, with the CC genotype showing a protective effect and the TT genotype linked to increased risk, particularly among women. The findings highlight the role of serotonergic receptor regulation and sex-specific genetic influences in the biological mechanisms underlying suicidality. This study was supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and contributes to understanding the polygenic factors involved in suicide risk within this population.
