Abstract
This study investigates the patient safety culture in Bhutanese hospitals using the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSPSC) questionnaire, surveying 1,004 healthcare professionals across 25 hospitals. Results indicate that while 61.3% of respondents rated patient safety practices as excellent or very good, significant gaps exist, particularly in the dimensions of handoffs and transitions, event reporting, and communication openness. Regression analysis identified handoffs and transitions, management support for patient safety, and teamwork within units as significant predictors of overall patient safety, with handoffs and transitions rated the lowest. The study concludes that although a patient safety culture is present in Bhutan's hospitals, improvements in reporting systems, communication, and management support are urgently needed to enhance safe healthcare delivery.
