Abstract
This article examines the trends in asthma prevalence in South Korea before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous studies have provided conflicting evidence on whether the prevalence of asthma has increased or decreased in South Korea, particularly among adolescents. The researchers analyzed data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) from 1998 to 2021 to understand the trends in asthma prevalence. The study found that asthma prevalence in preschool and school-aged children showed a declining trend, possibly due to changes in environmental and social circumstances and improved treatment adherence during the pandemic. However, no clear trends were observed in adults. The study highlights the need for further investigation into the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on asthma prevalence. [Extracted from the article]
