Abstract
This article focuses on the sociolinguistic study of the Spanish spoken in Granada, Spain, particularly examining linguistic change in real time through two comparable corpora: PRESEEA-GRAN (2004–2005) and AGENDA-GRAN (2021–2023). Granada's Spanish belongs to the Andalusian variety, which shows ongoing convergence with central-northern Peninsular Spanish but remains historically stigmatized. The city exemplifies urban elitisation and demographic shifts, including population decline in the city center and growth in the metropolitan area, influenced by economic challenges and migration. The article outlines Granada's sociolinguistic context, economic and demographic characteristics, and summarizes nine studies in phonetics, grammar, and pragmatics that analyze variation and change in Granada's Spanish, highlighting social factors such as education, gender, and age.
