Abstract

This article focuses on the prevalence and associated factors of Neonatal Near Miss (NNM)—newborns who survive life-threatening complications within the first 28 days—in a Moroccan referral hospital. A prospective cross-sectional study of 2,676 live births at the National Reference Center in Neonatology in Rabat found a high NNM proportion of 88.5%. Significant maternal predictors of NNM included referral from other health facilities, rural residence, fewer than four prenatal visits, and gestational hypertension. The findings suggest that improving primary health care, particularly prenatal care access and management of maternal conditions, is essential to reduce preventable neonatal morbidity and mortality in this context.
