'The struggle does not only go on, but it is continuous': Artistic resistance in Santiago de Chile: Delight Lab and CADA.

Abstract

The article examines the role of public art as a form of memory activism in Chile, focusing on the interdisciplinary collective Colectivo Acciones de Arte (CADA, 1979–83) and the contemporary art and design collective Delight Lab (founded 2009). CADA used street interventions during the Chilean dictatorship to resist repression and censorship, while Delight Lab's light projections during the 2019 social uprising reference CADA's legacy to address ongoing social inequalities and the dictatorship's enduring impact. Both collectives engage public space to create alternative, non-institutionalized narratives of memory that emphasize resistance and agency, challenging official commemorations and fostering community through shared historical and political references. The article highlights how these artistic practices contribute to the "memory-activism nexus" by linking past and present struggles and underscores the importance of studying art outside traditional institutions in processes of memorialization and social movements.
