Abstract

This study examines the motivational factors influencing Instagram use among young individuals aged 14 to 23 in the Kyrgyz Republic, employing the uses and gratifications theory (UGT) as its theoretical framework. Based on a quantitative survey of 515 respondents, three primary factors were identified: surveillance/knowledge about others, documentation, and self-expression. The research found that gender significantly affected the documentation factor, while time spent on Instagram was positively associated with all three factors; age and status showed no significant impact. These findings contribute to understanding Instagram usage motivations in Kyrgyzstan and suggest avenues for further research on gender differences and cultural comparisons in social media engagement.
