Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of KwaZulu Natal explored the experiences of mental healthcare workers in managing aggressive and violent behavior in psychiatric patients in Maseru, Lesotho. The study utilized a qualitative research design and identified several management strategies employed by the healthcare workers, including psychological, physical, chemical, empowerment, and policy strategies. The participants viewed these strategies as effective in addressing aggressive behavior. The findings of this study can contribute to the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of mental healthcare workers in managing aggression and violence in psychiatric patients.
