Abstract

This study investigates the motivations of adult learners enrolled in adult high schools in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, focusing on potential gender and age differences. Using the Education Participation Scale (EPS) A-Form, the research found that professional advancement, cognitive interest, and educational preparation are the primary motivators, while social contact and social stimulation are less influential. Female learners rated educational preparation significantly higher than males, whereas no significant motivational differences were observed across age groups. The findings suggest that adult learners in Riyadh are largely goal-oriented and self-directed, and the study recommends that educational policymakers tailor enrollment strategies to address these key motivations and gender-specific needs.
