Abstract
This article examines the prevalence of sarcopenia risk and its association with health-related quality of life (QoL) among community-dwelling older adults in Bekasi Regency, Indonesia. Using the Strength, Assistance with walking, Rising from a chair, Climbing stairs, Falls, and Calf circumference (SARC-CalF) tool to assess sarcopenia risk and the EuroQol 5-Dimension 5-Level (EQ-5D-5L) instrument for QoL, the study found that 44.9% of participants were at high risk for sarcopenia, which was strongly inversely correlated with QoL. Structural equation modeling revealed that sarcopenia mediated nearly half of the negative impact of comorbidities on QoL, with older females showing greater vulnerability. The findings support integrating routine sarcopenia screening and multifaceted interventions addressing muscle health, chronic disease management, and socioeconomic factors into primary health care and community elderly health posts (Posyandu Lansia) in Indonesia.
