Abstract
This article focuses on the taxonomy, distribution, and biogeography of freshwater crabs from the families Potamidae, Gecarcinucidae, and Sesarmidae in the Anambas and Natuna Islands of Indonesia. It reports eight species from five genera, including the description of a new genus and species, Natunamon indonesicum (Potamidae), and three new species: Isolapotamon remotum (Potamidae), Geosesarma anambas, and Geosesarma hashimi (Sesarmidae). The study highlights the unique morphological features and habitats of these crabs, discusses their phylogenetic relationships, and considers the influence of Pleistocene sea-level changes and paleoriver drainages on their current distributions. The findings contribute to understanding the evolutionary history and biogeographical patterns of freshwater crabs in Southeast Asian island archipelagos.
