Abstract
The article focuses on the effectiveness of somatostatin receptor positron emission tomography/computed tomography (SSTR PET/CT) in diagnosing hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1). A retrospective analysis of 47 MEN1 patients revealed that SSTR PET/CT had a low sensitivity of 15% for detecting primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) pathology, although it demonstrated 100% specificity. The study highlights the limited expression of somatostatin receptors in parathyroid tissue, suggesting that SSTR PET/CT is not suitable for localizing hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands in MEN1, and recommends the use of other imaging techniques for this purpose.
