Abstract
A recent study conducted by researchers at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, explored the effects of Kava (Piper methysticum) on the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels in the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC) of individuals with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). The study found that participants who received Kava experienced a significant reduction in dACC GABA levels compared to those who received a placebo. The findings suggest that Kava may have an inhibitory effect on GABA levels, which could serve as a potential biomarker for diagnosis and treatment response in GAD.
