Abstract

The article focuses on a case of necrotising soft tissue inflammation caused by Staphylococcus argenteus following traditional leech therapy in a Vietnamese patient with gout. The patient applied leeches to a self-punctured, non-sterile site on his palm, leading to severe cellulitis and necrosis. Treatment involved intravenous antibiotics and surgical debridement, resulting in recovery. The report highlights the infection risks associated with unsupervised folk leech therapy and the need for clinician awareness of emerging pathogens and safer practices.
