Interpersonal Attraction and Emotional Intelligence among Unmarried Couples.

Abstract

The present research aimed to find out if there was a relationship between emotional intelligence attributes and interpersonal attraction among unmarried couples. One hundred unmarried couples between 18 to 35 years (M = 25.50; SD = 3.15) who had been in romantic relationships for at least six months or more took part and responded the Wong and Law Intelligence Scale and the Interpersonal Attraction Scale. Results revealed that the interpersonal attraction of the unmarried couple was associated positively with self-emotional appraisal, use of emotion and others' emotional appraisal but insignificant with regulation of emotion. According to stepwise regression analysis, 15% of the interpersonal attraction was explained by the use of emotion (4%), and self-emotional appraisal (11%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
