Abstract
Isotretinoin, a treatment for acne, has been the most effective therapy for over 40 years. The UK recently published new recommendations for prescribing isotretinoin, including changes for patients under 18 years old and monitoring for sexual and psychiatric dysfunction. However, concerns have been raised about the validity of these recommendations, as the evidence presented did not establish causality for isotretinoin and psychiatric or sexual dysfunction. A survey of Irish dermatologists found that the majority were satisfied with current prescribing regulations and did not support further restrictions. The study suggests areas for improvement, such as the availability of contraception waiver forms with inclusive language and increased awareness of prescribing precautions for the trans community. Overall, Irish dermatologists have confidence in current isotretinoin prescribing guidance and prioritize patient welfare. [Extracted from the article]
