Abstract
This article focuses on new research from the University of Granada, Spain, examining the psychological suffering of women as reflected in the semantic analysis of the Greek term "epsilon nu omicron chi lambda eta sigma iota sigma" in Galen’s medical text *De Compositione Medicamentorum Secundum Locos*. The study interprets this term as expressing women’s emotional distress caused by male criticism of their physical appearance, linking it to feelings of annoyance and physical pain. It suggests that Galen’s recommendation of cosmetic remedies, such as hair dye, functioned as early preventative treatments for depression. Funded by regional Spanish research programs, this peer-reviewed work explores historical intersections of gender, psychology, and medicine. [Extracted from the article]
