Abstract

This article focuses on a study evaluating parental attitudes and experiences regarding electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in pediatric and adolescent psychiatric patients. Conducted at a tertiary psychiatric hospital in Turkey, the research involved parents of 12- to 18-year-old patients who underwent ECT, primarily for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Findings indicate that most parents viewed ECT as effective and safe, with many reporting symptom reduction and decreased suicidal ideation in their children, though some experienced fear during treatment. The study highlights that older parents may need additional informational support and recommends structured psychoeducation to better involve parents in the treatment process.
