Abstract

This article focuses on comparing the incidence of medication-related interventions by intensive care unit (ICU) pharmacists during in-person versus virtual visits at ICU recovery centers (ICU-RCs) for adult survivors of critical illness. The study analyzed 472 patients across 12 ICU-RCs in the United States and the United Kingdom, finding a higher incidence of pharmacist interventions in in-person visits (86.5%) compared to virtual visits (79.2%), although the median number of interventions per patient was similar between groups. An ICU admission diagnosis was identified as an independent predictor of pharmacist interventions. The findings support the role of ICU pharmacists in both in-person and telehealth ICU-RC visits to address complex pharmacologic needs associated with post-intensive care syndrome (PICS), while highlighting differences in intervention patterns between visit modalities.
