Abstract

This article focuses on the use of chronic epidural spinal cord stimulation (eSCS) as a potential treatment for sexual dysfunction in women with spinal cord injury (SCI). The study involved seven women with motor and sensory complete SCI who received continuous eSCS at the T11-T12 spinal level over 13 months, with assessments of sexual distress, bowel, and bladder function conducted monthly. Results showed significant improvements in female sexual distress and bowel function, with some participants reporting functional gains not fully captured by surveys, such as restoration of orgasm and reduced need for catheterization. These findings suggest that eSCS may offer a promising approach to restoring high-priority pelvic organ functions in women with chronic SCI.
