Abstract
This study focused on examining the relationship between pulse pressure index (PPI)—defined as pulse pressure divided by systolic blood pressure—and the progression of coronary artery disease (CAD). Analyzing 193 patients with repeated coronary angiograms and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, the researchers found that both pulse pressure (PP) and PPI were significantly higher in patients with CAD progression, with PPI showing a stronger independent predictive value. Additionally, PPI correlated more closely with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and glycated hemoglobin than PP and demonstrated better accuracy in predicting CAD progression. The findings suggest that elevated PPI may be a more reliable marker than PP for assessing CAD progression, though further large-scale prospective studies are needed to confirm its clinical utility.
