Abstract
This article focuses on the prevalence, types, and treatment outcomes of congenital anomalies (CAs) among neonates admitted to a tertiary referral center in Northern India over seven years. The study found a CA prevalence of 8.9%, with cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary systems most commonly affected. Although 57.5% of neonates with CAs were eligible for surgical intervention, only a small proportion, especially those requiring cardiovascular surgery, received timely treatment due to delayed referrals and financial constraints, resulting in a mortality rate of 16.8%. The findings highlight significant challenges in managing CAs in low- and middle-income country settings and emphasize the need for improved healthcare infrastructure, multidisciplinary collaboration, and enhanced awareness for early detection and referral.
