Abstract
This article focuses on a randomized, placebo-controlled trial conducted in Côte d'Ivoire to evaluate the efficacy and safety of moxidectin-albendazole combination therapy compared to albendazole monotherapy and ivermectin-albendazole combination for treating Trichuris trichiura infection, a soil-transmitted helminth. The study found no significant superiority of moxidectin-albendazole or ivermectin-albendazole over albendazole alone, with low cure rates of 15.3%, 22.5%, and 13.4%, respectively. All treatments were generally well tolerated with mostly mild and transient adverse events. The findings highlight the need for alternative treatment options and further research to understand the limited efficacy of current therapies against trichuriasis in this setting.
