Abstract

The article focuses on the relationship between lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) levels and erectile dysfunction (ED) in men, particularly within the context of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). An analysis of data from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) involving 1,884 men revealed that while traditional cardiovascular risk factors were associated with prevalent ED, elevated Lp(a) levels (defined as ≥ 50 mg/dL) did not show a significant association with ED, regardless of ASCVD risk status. The study suggests that Lp(a) may not be a clinically relevant factor in the development of vasculogenic ED, highlighting the multifactorial nature of ED's pathogenesis. Limitations of the study include the cross-sectional assessment of ED and reliance on self-reported data. [Extracted from the article]
