Abstract
This article focuses on a randomized controlled trial investigating the effects of an 8-week aquatic exercise protocol on balance recovery strategies and center of pressure (COP) sways in blind women. Thirty visually impaired women were assigned to either an experimental group, which participated in targeted aquatic exercises designed to enhance the somatosensory system, or a control group that maintained routine activities. Results showed that the aquatic exercise group exhibited a significant shift from a hip-dominant to an ankle-based balance recovery strategy, along with reduced COP sways, indicating improved postural stability. These findings suggest that aquatic interventions may effectively enhance balance and reduce fall risk in blind women, supporting their inclusion in rehabilitation programs.
