Abstract
This article presents a preliminary mapping of clinical psychology and neuropsychology staffing across Level 1 and 2 NHS specialist neurorehabilitation services in England as of February 2023, audited against the British Society of Rehabilitation Medicine (BSRM) Specialised Neurorehabilitation Service Standards (2015). Data from twenty services indicate an average shortfall of approximately 2 full-time equivalent psychologists compared to recommended minimum staffing levels, with most services understaffed. The study highlights potential negative impacts on patient care, including suboptimal rehabilitation outcomes and increased risk of long-term disability, as well as consequences for staff support and service quality. The authors call for increased funding and staffing to meet national standards and support effective multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation.
