Abstract

The article focuses on evaluating the diagnostic value of plasma methylated Septin 9 (mSEPT9) in detecting hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) among Egyptian patients with post-hepatitis C liver cirrhosis, compared to serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels. The study, conducted at Ain Shams University Hospital, involved 80 subjects divided into HCC patients, cirrhosis patients, and healthy controls. Results indicated that while AFP demonstrated superior diagnostic accuracy, mSEPT9 showed higher sensitivity, and combining both biomarkers could improve HCC detection. The authors suggest further research with larger cohorts to validate these findings and explore risk factors for adverse outcomes.
